My family (the Renner's) have farmed in this area for over four hundred years and a strong tradition of combining environmental care with sound, practical farming runs right through the business. We are now a LEAF demonstration farm.
In 1997 we started farming at Bellshill, is a mixed farm of 136ha (338 acres), the main enterprises are winter crops for the production of both animal and human goods. We also have sheep, from November to May we look after other peoples cattle in our sheds.
The farm is located within a Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ). These areas were set up by the government to protect water courses that feed protected wildlife area. Water from Bellshill flows into the Sea at Budle Bay which is a haven for wildlife. With the help of Alnwick Scouts, we have built a bird hide (why not come and spot the wildlife).
Mr and Mrs Renner are members of Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) and through LEAF, we regularly host visits from various groups from schools to walking for health groups. The highest point on the farm is 170m above sea level, and there are some excellent views over the surrounding countryside. |
